But big data is controlled by organisations creating algorithms that we can only make sense of the world through their eyes…and we can only see the world they want us to see.
The internet of things is outsourcing the decisions we train our brain to make…to machines created by other people’s brains, while we untrain our brains from the ability to make decisions. With virtual reality, we see a reality that is layered onto our physical reality, yet reality is and always has been socially constructed.
Beyond the disruption of streaming to the music industry’s business model, it embeds the behaviour of zapping introduced with the TV, such that you never concentrate on any particular song, you don’t appreciate how the musicians have constructed the song, you only focus on the chorus of the breakdown…which explains why electronic dance music (EDM) is so popular.
At the same time, the internet has enabled people and bands to bypass the industry and self-publish straight to Soundcloud or Youtube or crowdfund their songs on Sellaband or Kickstarter.
