Ways of seeing

I remember seeing Ways of Seeing by John Berger on my parent’s bookshelf and being intrigued about it helps us think about the world we live in.

“Ways of knowing which can live without the answer, but cannot ignore the experience”

For each of these, I looked at great examples I’ve been involved in which bring ways of feeling, seeing & thinking:

Ways of feeling

  • Based on people’s deep-rooted values

Ways of thinking

  • Where you are matched with someone who thinks the opposite of you

Ways of relating

  • Supporting people who are extraverts and introverts — getting extroverts to energise the team but not to dominate, getting introverts to facilitate 121s to build their confidence to present to a group and getting ambiverts to observe and define how to facilitate

Ways of seeing

  • Learning from John Berger who retreated to Haute Savoie and immerse himself in the lives of the people he wanted to study, creating connections between unlikely people — such as plumbers and Cartier Bresson
