Public services, as leaders and interventionists, are increasingly being looked upon to adapt to the changes that the pandemic and climate crisis will bring. They play a crucial role in responding to the pandemic and are equally important in tackling the climate crisis.

As public services, including councils, venture into new working methods, the question arises-will the public be comfortable with these changes? Perhaps, the key lies in empowering those whom the public trusts the most, be it care home workers, nurses, doctors, engineers, or delivery drivers, to be part of these decisions.

While it’s ideal for the government to act swiftly and have all the necessary evidence, people understand that this may not always be feasible in the current circumstances. What they do expect, however, is transparency in the decision-making process. This transparency should encompass the health-related aspects of the pandemic and its socio-economic impacts.
