My next short story in creative writing — coming up with locations for characters.

Lancelot Copse conjures up a hiding place for a mythical knight that you might discover at night.

Daisy Gardens brings to mind spring and sun while relaxing in the grass.

Malfatti Street makes your taste buds lust for a holiday to Italy trying out antipasti.

Malfatti Street intersects with Rowntree Road and Snickers Lane, in a typical suburban neighbourhood in Storyville.

Rowntree Road had originally been the site of an ancient forest owned by the Crown Estate centuries ago. But everyone in the village was superstitious about the letter C — because of a tale about a witch called Cecilia who drowned in a well.

Daisy Gardens on the other hand was a new development built on the grounds of a contaminated coal station. There were no gardens and definitely no daisies that could have grown back then. Everyone living in the development had been living there for only three months.

Tony came from Troytown, the other end of the Velvet Country after taking part in an auction. Being very competitive, an auction was ideal for him to make a big bet, as a gift to his girlfriend. Sheena was a control freak, and wasn’t pleased with the gift, but had kept tight-lipped until she arrived in Daisy Gardens.

Rashid who lives next door to Tony was gifted the flat by his parents who’d worked in the coal station until the health conditions forced them to retire.

On the first contact between Tony and Rashid, they both wondered why there was a secret attic that they couldn’t access. Was this a quirk of new developments or a genuine secret? Masla darted past them, brushing past Tony and Rashid. As they both turned around, she made the C sign and whispered “see you in the attic”…
