How can we support innovation to help people on low incomes?

We were delighted to host Resolution Ventures which supports ventures that work directly with low-income households and improve lives for workers

They shared their work backing innovative start-ups seeking to change the world of work for the better, and early-stage ventures seeking to improve the prospects of low-to-middle income Britain.

Its ventures activity span social investment, creating communities and networks of ventures and stakeholders in the areas we care about, and pioneering action-oriented research that bridges the gaps between analysis from the Resolution Foundation and practical solutions.

We then explored what role organisations can play to develop solutions for people on low incomes and improve the world of work, discussing themes like:

  • Addressing confidence as a major barrier to finding work- either through courses etc or through strengths-based support to help people find stability
  • The impact on wellbeing and emphasizing the importance and reaching out to residents better
  • Local authorities using their clout with businesses to persuade them to adopt some of the venture pilots
  • Connecting with the ventures for early identification of employees in need of welfare/wellbeing support

Louise Marston is Director of Ventures at the Resolution Foundation, running The Workertech Partnership.
