As part of the treasure hunt, there were various missions and I’ve covered a couple of these on finding your emotions and foreshadowing alternatives. Linked to both of these was the “What future do you choose” activity run by @thinkactvote and by my good friend @amishaghadiali.
As I caught with her on her latest think act vote venture on finding the soundtracks people wanted to take into the future (mine is below!), it reminded me of this activity.
Straight after the referendum on an alternative vote, we thought that given most people won’t have voted, we wanted to enable everyone to see a ballot box that week, but ask them an open question that didn’t require them to understand the arithmetic of electoral systems.
The idea of inviting Amisha was inspired by the Swedish election huts which personify what election campaigns should be about — like the conversations in a market — and where politics are convivial. Also because Amisha inspired me to think that being creative and political aren’t mutually exclusive, especially when it comes to rethinking consumption. As the founder of this activity asked “if it was up to you to create the world that you want to live in, what would it be?”
It was even more appropriate for our festival to organise a workshop in one of the most romantic capitals in the world to ask to capture people’s dreams about their city. Now I’ve discovered another initiative on dreams from India which is really compelling on how they use travelling to uncover people’s dreams.
